Responsibilities:

Research and Analysis

  • Supports the drafting of high-quality research outputs on mixed migration in the region (ie QMMU)
  • Keep abreast of new developments and ongoing debates on migration data and actively propose new areas of research for the region.
  • As needed: support the development of research tools; supports the training of national coordinators on research tools and methodology
  • Analysis and data interpretation; draft, contribute to, and present analysis in visuals, presentations, and written reports; ensure regular and timely production of analysis and monitoring of trends.
Communication support

  • Support internal communication: The Trainee will provide team coordination support, creating systems that ensure coordination across countries and offices is efficient (keeping track of external engagements, meetings note, etc.), coordination of team meetings etc.
  • Support external communication: Supports dissemination of research products to inform programming and policymakers. Support the preparation of external engagement meetings, identify key fora at regional and national level relevant for the MMC WANA, prepare presentations in PPT with up-to-date content, etc.

Administrative and Project management support

  • The first part of the year will see the launch of key new projects that will require support from the Trainee for set up; internal launch etc.
  • The Trainee will support grants management aspects of projects, as well as maintaining up to date administrative platforms.
  • The trainee will support the implementation of projects (link with consultants and between the teams, ad hoc operational support, when necessary, note taking…)
  • The trainee will make sure the team Sharepoint is up to date and well used across the team.

Tasks might evolve according to needs and projects.

Required Qualifications: (include years of experience)

  • A degree in social sciences, political science, international relations, development or a related field of study. A focus on migration is considered an advantage;
  • Excellent English and French written skills
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint);
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Desirable:

  • Affinity with issues relating to migration (mixed), forced displacement and humanitarian/development work
  • Previous experience of working or interning with international or UN NGOs in the development or humanitarian aid sector, preferably in a project assistant or project management role;
  • Experience in data collection methods or database management.

Education:

Relevant degree from an internationally recognized university, or sufficient proven professional experience related to the sector.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and French, both spoken and written preferably with academic or professional writing experience.
