The Opportunity

GATE-GEC is a 4-year education project which will support marginalized girls and children with disabilities to overcome barriers to gaining a quality education with the aim to increase literacy and numeracy outcomes. You will be involved in this by ensuring sound accounting, financial management, internal control systems and procedures are in place for the smooth running of Plan’s operations in Sierra Leone in the area of the GECT project implemented across 5 districts in Sierra Leone.

You will ensure that consortium financial reports are reviewed as accurate and consolidated in a timely manner, whilst also making sure that the disbursement of all Plan funds is done in line with Plan procedures. You will oversee that financial issues are dealt with and also spend a significant amount of time working to ensure financials are accurately reported internally from partners. You will work closely with Plan Sierra Leone to ensure the GECT project fully complies with the law regarding taxation, employment and other relevant regulatory requirements.

The Individual

To be successful in this role, you will have a master’s degree in finance or financial management, or a professional qualification in accountancy. You will have in-depth knowledge of the DFID (or similar) financial management rules and regulations of the United Kingdom government. It is essential that you have experience in managing grants programmes or sub-granting mechanisms involving local NGOs and you must also have proven logistics, procurement or supply chain management skills.

We are looking to employ someone with good negotiating, facilitating and influencing skills who also has the ability to adopt to new software and financial management systems. You will have excellent problem solving, analytical and judgement skills, alongside the ability to deliver to tight deadlines and facilitate participative processes.

Location: Freetown, Sierra Leone

Type of Role: 10 month fixed term contract. Programme ends July 2021. Single Assignment.

Reports to:  GECT Team leader with a dotted line to consortium managers.
