OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
To ensure that effective WHO country presence is established to implement WHO country, cooperation strategies that are aligned with Member State’s health and development agendas, and harmonized with the United Nations country teams.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
- Participate in the needs assessments and work with technical units in identifying needs of the affected population in regard to case management care including referral pathways.
- Provide input on issues related to case management/trauma, reviewing, analysing and using evidence-based data for setting up or adapting case management tools, interventions and approaches.
- Apply case management measures and support to organize and participate in trainings for healthcare workers, hospital management and auxiliaries.
- Assist national and local health authorities to develop and communicate messages with the medical and health communities on clinical features and effective behaviours.
- Support the logistics team in the specification and quantity estimations supplies, medications and Personal Protective Equipment PPE and etc.
- Document clinical features and case management of the patients, identify gaps and recommend corrective actions to clinical partners and national public health authorities.
- Upon delegation participate in case management meetings with Federal and State MoH and clinical partners/EMTs, including case reviews and quality assurance meetings and visits.
- Track health related situation in the country, review and analyse incoming field information on treatment, health facilities, and health workers, and draft updates on a regular and timely basis to all levels of the response.
- Where required, provide technical input on the status and condition isolation facilities based on standard guidelines and principles for infection prevention and control as deemed necessary.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: University degree in Medicine, Nursing field, or in Public Health/Hospital Management or in related filed.
Desirable: Specialization or certification in an emergency related field such as e.g. emergency medicine, trauma care, surgery, toxicology, infectious diseases, tropical medicine, from an accredited/recognized institute.
Advanced university degree (Master’s level or above) in the Medicine or Nursing field, with a specialisation in emergency e.g. emergency medicine, trauma care, surgery, toxicology, infectious diseases, tropical medicine, from an accredited/recognized institute.
Experience
Essential: At least two years’ practical experience in the implementation of case management and clinical care activities and/or infectious diseases in outbreak, disaster or humanitarian emergency.
Desirable: Experience in epidemiology, research, and analysis, and/or the development of training tools and databases for monitoring and evaluation purposes.
Previous experience with WHO, other UN agencies, Emergency Medical Teams, health cluster partners, recognized humanitarian organizations or nongovernmental organizations is desirable.
Skills
• Sound technical skills and knowledge in the area of case management.
• Concrete skills and knowledge in emergency response.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with ability to write in a clear and concise manner and give technical advice and guidance taking into consideration the views of multiple stakeholders and partners in resource-limited contexts.
• Proven ability to promote consensus, communicate progress and results, and resolve issues in a proactive manner, while ensuring effective work practices and ethics.
