Roles & Responsibilities/Job Description
Main Purpose of Job
The Business Development Manager (BDM) leads the resource mobilization (RM) alignment to strategy work as well as annual planning. The BDM also identifies and tracks fundraising opportunities, facilitates donor engagement, coordinates proposal development and writes proposals. The BDM also identifies and nurtures partnership opportunities to maximize collective impact for ACRA programs. In addition, the BDM oversees the implementation of fundraising protocols to include: proposal development guidelines, knowledge management tools, reporting progress against fundraising plan, etc. The BDM works with a diverse group of individuals and teams, both In South Sudan and abroad, that they don’t directly supervise.
The Business Development Manager (BDM) leads resource mobilization aligned with ACRA’s strategic plan 2023-2026, country business plan and program choices.
Key Tasks:
- Monitor sub-grants and support the finance department in rolling out an updated finance reporting format and assisting the Finance Manager with the overall grant objectives. (5%)
- Strategic Positioning & Annual Planning for Business Development (20%)
- Funding intelligence and preparedness (identify and track funding opportunities with new and existing donors: (20%)
- Proposal Coordination and Proposal Writing: (50%)
- Development of goals, strategies, and implementation plans. (5%)
Specific roles and responsibilities:
- Support the organization’s financial sustainability strategy by identifying donor resources, raising funds, and writing proposals. This is through exploring fundraising opportunities, ensuring all aspects of donor management and fundraising requirements in effective coordination with other departments.
- Compile and maintain a database of international and local donor organizations and private corporations offering donations, and interested in implementing CSR or sponsorship activities.
- Undertake independent research in finding alternative resources for the long-term sustainability of the organization.
- Suggest other innovative ideas for effective resource mobilization. Organize fundraising events for the organization.
- Identify and track relevant upcoming funding opportunities – through advance intelligence gathering, partner relationships, and other available resources – and inform Country Office (CO) and relevant Organization’s technical and other partners.
- Conduct prospecting visits to donors to identify and prepare for upcoming funding opportunities.
- Manage Actions for pre-solicitation proposal preparations and bid planning including: teaming, bid strategy, development of win-themes, oversight of and contribution to technical design, drafting management and other sections of the proposal in advance of the solicitation.
- Networking, and communicating ACRA’s mission to all stakeholders.
- Oversees digital and social media strategy, including the evolving digital market, and contributes new ideas to enhance the organization’s social presence. Developing content calendars with the communications and program team, coordinating with the IT and graphic designer for post designs, and moderating all social media platforms.
- Keeps an updated archive of ACRA’s digital assets including Digital and print designs, photo banks, videos, and documentaries.
- Works with the IT office to develop content for updates on website on regular basis, monitors analytics, identifies any areas of improvement to increase traffic, and manages the relationship with website development agency
- Represent The organization’s business development interests at relevant meetings, events, and within resource mobilization or donor-specific peer networks
- Perform any other duties as required by the Line Manager
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE
- Post Graduate training e.g., Development Studies, Project Management, Master’s degree in Business Management, Economics, Public Administration, Political Science, Social Sciences, etc) from a recognized university.
- Technical training in any of the field related to ACRA program priorities (Livelihoods, Health and Nutrition, Education, WASH, Climate Justice, Gender Justice, Peace building and Humanitarian Action) is an added advantage.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role or senior management role with similar responsibilities. Candidates should articulate their achievements or contributions.
- Current knowledge of the strategic priorities and programs of Government as well as that of development partners.
- Hands on experience with logic models in development programs (theories of change, logical frameworks, results frameworks).
- Analytical skills, with practical experience in data-based decision-making. The ability to understand and use analytical models and indicators is essential e.g., root-cause/problem tree analyses, cost-benefit analysis, risk analysis, chances for success, etc
