Responsibilities
Within delegated authority and under the direct supervision of the Area Security Adviser or the Field Security Coordination Officer (FSCO), the Security Officer will carry out the following duties:
• Drafts and updates security contingency plans for a security unit ;
• Monitors prevailing local security conditions and trends and advises UN personnel, project personnel and eligible dependents on security issues;
• Serves as a member of the Security Cell, contributing to implementation and evaluation of the security plan;
• Monitors air, land and sea emergency evacuation capability; conducts evacuation exercises;
• Assists in the evaluation of of accessible areas and assists in the coordination of a 24-hour Emergency Response System as required;
• Conduct security risk assessments for the area of operations as required;
• Monitors, conducts, or coordinates security operations;
• Maintains continuing lines of communication with security focal points and other UN or non-UN stake holders;
• Assist senior Officers in briefing to Security Coordination Officer on the status, activity, and requirements of the unit;
• Assists in the management of basic Security Trainings in the Field Office;
• Contributes to the delivery of security training to security and non-security personnel;
• Provides advice, guidance and support on security related matters affecting UN personnel in mission or field offices, as required;
• Conducts routine physical security inspections of facilities;
• Provides advice to UN personnel and eligible dependents on security matters, as assigned;
• Conduct Investigations of security-related incidents involving UN personnel, project personnel or eligible dependents;
Contributes to the identification of gaps in existing capability and makes recommendation for amendment where necessary;
• Maintain the Security Office electronic filing system and databases of correspondence and administrative documents as required;
• Performs other related administrative duties and human resources offices as required;
• Performs other duties as required.

Education
High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in the military, police, security management or analysis with a military, police or international security management organization is required
At least one year of experience in a conflict and post conflict environment is required.
At least two years’ experience and exposure at the international level is Desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required;
