Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:
a. Provide strategic advice to the Director, Diplomatic Engagement and Assemblies Affairs Division, on specific policy and organizational issues pertaining to the organization of Diplomatic Conferences and WIPO Ministerial Forums, as required.
b. Support the Director, Diplomatic Engagement and Assemblies Affairs Division, in delivering successful high level and governing body meetings, including future Diplomatic Conferences, Ministerial-level events and Assemblies, working closely with the Secretary to the WIPO Assemblies and the Office of the Legal Counsel; ensure timely internal and external communications.
c. Support the Director, Diplomatic Engagement and Assemblies Affairs Division, in ensuring the coordination of relevant documents and texts required for the Diplomatic Conferences and other Ministerial-level events, including the preparation and coordination of official communications, or other programmatic or diplomatic correspondence.
d. Provide assistance horizontally, as part of a collaborative support team, in particular to the Office of the Legal Counsel, to meet surge capacity of Office of the Legal Counsel in the context of the above meetings on the range of sensitive decisions and issues that may arise, as required.
e. Participate in the development of systems and procedures pertaining to the organization of high level conferences by conducting research, collecting and reviewing information, and make recommendations to establish practices and/or policies, as required.
f. Prepare the budget submission, foresee budget constraints and advise the Director, Diplomatic Engagement and Assemblies Affairs Division, of impending budgetary problems or discrepancies. If required, prepare requests for additional funding.
g. Perform other administrative, representational and organizational tasks and related duties, as and when required.
h. Ensure the effective coordination of activities, projects and initiatives across the Organization.
Education (Essential)
First-level university degree in Public or Business Administration, International Relations, Social Sciences, Law or a related discipline.
Experience (Essential)
At least six years of relevant professional experience, at the international level, in the areas of international diplomacy, policy advice and strategic planning.
Experience in policy analysis, project design and implementation, relationship management and partnerships.
Experience in national and international policy development, multilateral negotiations, administration, and international relations, in particular the work of WIPO, the UN system or other international organizations.
Demonstrated track record of establishing and managing partnerships, preferably in an international setting.
Language (Essential)
Excellent command of written and spoken English.
Language (Desirable)
Knowledge of other official UN languages.
