Then, join the Fabric (FA) group in charge of procuring, managing, and operating the layer providing IT equipment for the CERN experiments and users community, the Data Centres and associated Computing Facilities. Take part!

You will oversee the technical procurement of a large number of servers and storage systems for the CERN Data Centres, the LHC experiments as well as the Accelerator and Technology Sector. You will also contribute to supplying CERN users with business computers and associated peripherals. Analysis of hardware related problems with suppliers and manufacturers as well as the evaluation and benchmarking of new hardware products will be part of your activities.

Functions

As an IT Systems Engineer within the IT-FA group, you will be responsible for the technical procurement and hardware support of servers, storage systems as well as business computers and associated peripherals.

You will :

  • Analyse user needs and define recommendations for appropriate hardware configurations.
  • Manage the procurement procedures to supply the recommended solutions, in accordance with CERN purchasing rules.
  • Carry out conformity assessments of the supplied systems.
  • Resolve problems related to IT systems and follow up with contractors and manufacturers as necessary.
  • Contribute to the development of IT-FA Group software for IT systems management.

Qualifications

Master’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of computer science or a related field.

Experience:

  • Proven experience with computer systems (BIOS/UEFI, x86/ARM processor architecture and virtualization, memory, GPU computing), interconnect (Ethernet, InfiniBand) and types of storage drives (S-ATA, SAS, NVMe).
  • Proven experience with management and monitoring protocols such as, but not limited to, IPMI, SMART and SNMP.
  • Extensive experience with Linux and shell scripting.
  • Demonstrated experience with Windows.
  • Demonstrated experience with Python.
