The Operations and Planning Department (OPD), is responsible for coordinating and planning support for the activities of the Telecommunication Standardization Sector. It does this through managing the Bureau’s activities for organization and planning of assemblies and logistical support to meetings. The Department oversees document processing and provides IT services and solutions for electronic working methods and the development of ITU-T databases. The Department also provides administrative and secretarial support for intellectual property matters and manages the technical editing and final production of ITU-T recommendations and publications as well as ISO/IEC common texts. The Department collaborates closely with the Departments of the General Secretariat and the Bureaux which are responsible for providing support services.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Data Science Intern will aid the International Telecommunication Union, Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) in enhancing their data-driven decision-making processes and progress towards the objectives of the Department.
The area of data analysis and prediction will include but not limit to, KPIs of the department, editing/publishing, standards approval process, meeting and event planning, remote participation analysis & EWM usage statistics (WTSA Res. 32, 44), IT operational support requests & timeline (WTSA Res. 32), SG meeting participation and interest trends (WTSA Res. 2 & 68), Works & collaboration being conducted by other Standards Developing Organizations (WTSA Res 7).
The results of these analysis and predictions will help to get insights, plan better and improve the services provided by ITU-T in various areas.
TERMS OF REFERENCE
Under the supervision of the Head of IT Support and Operations Unit and a staff member from IT Applications Development team of OPD, the intern will:
COMPETENCIES
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis tools such as Python or R. • Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and statistical modelling techniques. • Experience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI or any open source tools. • Strong communication skills and ability to effectively communicate complex data insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. • Knowledge in cloud services and open-source tools is an added advantage.
QUALIFICATION REQUIRED
Education: University degree, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
Experience: No work experience is required.
Languages: Advanced level of English.
