Background :
Niger and Nigeria have experienced unprecedented crises, aggravated by the repeated violence of Boko Haram and other extremist groups. The resulting instability has slowed down economic growth and compounded existing environmental and developmental challenges in the Lake Chad basin region. About 10.7 million people in the region are directly affected by these crises and need humanitarian support. Almost a quarter of the affected population have been forced to flee their homes due to conflicts or food shortages largely because of the Boko Haram insurgency.
To ensure stabilization of the region, on 30 August 2018, the Council of Ministers of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) adopted the Regional Strategy for the Stabilization, Recovery and Resilience (RSS) of the Boko Haram-affected areas of the Lake Basin Region.
The Strategy is anchored in the “New Way of Working” and “Whole of Society” to foster strong humanitarian, development and peace nexus and recognizes the imperative for local, national and regional coordination, as well as partnership in stabilizing the Lake Chad Basin region.
To that effect, the RSS has envisioned the set-up of a Regional CSO Platform: with the aim to articulate civil society role in the implementation of the RSS Strategy.
The intern will be supporting the daily management of the Regional CSO Platform Coordination and work with the CSO Advisor on the implementation of the LCBC Regional Stabilisation Strategy (RSS) civil society component.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Over the past decade, the four countries around the Lake Chad basin: Cameroon, Chad, The intern will provide administrative and coordination support to the CSO Advisor, including project management support as needed, and assist in the following duties and responsibilities :
- Provide data analysis and preparation of talking points, briefs and reports for a range of audiences, including senior management ;
- Development and maintenance of information materials, contact lists, monthly newsletter, and other communications products as requested, to support the Regional RSS CSO membership ;
- Provide logistical and secretariat support to CSO Platform team meetings, meetings with the RSS team and other national and international development partners ;
- Assist with administrative and substantive tasks related to the management of the CSO Regional Platform ;
- Other duties as assigned, including cross team tasks as required.

Required Skills and Experience :
Education :
Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements :
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) ;
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) ;
- Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
Intern requiements :
- Applicants should indicate which months they are available part and/or full time and when they complete their studies ;
- UNDP internship programme does provide a monthly stipend for the internship period ;
- All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution ;
- UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship ;
- The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed ;
- Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship ;
- The intern must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan ;
- Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
Language skills :
- Fluency – both oral and written – in English ;
- Knowledge of other French and/or Arabic is an advantage.
