Project Overview and Role:
The Australian Government, through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), has committed to deepen education links between Australia and the Pacific, providing scholarships to students from up to nine Pacific island countries to study their senior high school years in Australia.
The Pacific Secondary Schools Scholarships Program (PSSSP) provides selected scholarship recipients with the opportunity for a high quality Australian education and practical youth leadership development to prepare them for their own future in higher education, training or employment, and to contribute to the economic and social development of their own countries.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Country Manager will manage the in-country scholarships processes, reporting to the Deputy Team Leader – Scholarships. The position will contribute to developing country level promotional plans in conjunction with the Communications and Public Diplomacy Manager and promote the scholarships and the Australian education system to potential applicants and their families and guardians across the country. The Country Manager will also support selection processes, provide pre-departure briefings and mobilise the students, including chaperoning them to Australia. They will also liaise with other national stakeholders, including supporting DFAT’s engagement as required.

- Pre-departure and Mobilisation of Scholarship Recipients
- Maintain accessible systems to communicate with parents while their child is in Australia in line with Individual Communication Plans and in support of activities undertaken by education providers, including providing support for parents and advising on their child’s education and welfare.
- Provide career counselling for scholarship recipients in their home country to inform them of their future pathway options beyond the scholarship period (commencing during the scholarship cycle).
- Oversee maintenance of country-specific information on the Program’s Management Information System, SCHOLAR.

Required Qualifications:
- An education background or experience in working in the education sector. Specific education experience, such as teaching or working in a Ministry or Department of Education, is desirable.
- Experience working on an education scholarships program is desirable.
- A good understanding of the country’s education system.
- Excellent process management skills and the ability to work independently
- Excellent interpersonal skills with all ages and strong written and oral communications skills. Great communication skills are essential for managing the in-country stakeholders, including parents, DFAT post and country representatives.
