The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) – 50 Million Women African Women Speak Project has received financing from the African Development Fund in the form of a “financing Grant” toward the cost of implementation of the 50 Million African Women Speak Networking Platform (50MAWSP) project. COMESA intends to apply a portion of the agreed amount for this grant to eligible payments under the contract for Consultancy Services to Provide Media, Publicity and Marketing Support for the 50 Million African Women Speak Platform in the COMESA Member States.
COMESA implements the project jointly with the East African Community (EAC), and Economic Community for West African States (ECOWAS) in 38 countries belonging to the three Regional Economic Communities (RECs). The project is expected to attract 50 million women to the platform as users or beneficiaries of the services and opportunities availed by the platform. The Project aims at: increasing access to markets and use of financial services by women entrepreneurs; increased participation of women entrepreneurs in business networks; increased availability of statistics on women in business; and increased access to national and regional markets. Ultimately, the 50 Million African Women Speak initiative is expected to contribute to the economic empowerment of women in Africa in general and in the Member/Partner States of COMESA, EAC and ECOWAS.
COMESA implements the project in 17 Member States namely Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Eswatini, Tunisia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The other member States of COMESA namely Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda are covered by EAC.
COMESA now invites eligible consultant firms to indicate their interest in providing these services. Interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services by submitting (brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate June 2, 2020 skills among staff, etc.). Consultant firms may constitute joint ventures to enhance their chances of qualification. All interested firms must indicate capacity, presence and visibility within the following 17 COMESA Member States or have capacity to create local partnerships in countries where they do not have physical presence. These Countries are: Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Eswatini, Tunisia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Eligibility criteria, establishment of the short-list and the selection procedure shall be in accordance with the African Development Bank’s “Procurement Policy for the Bank Group-funded Operations”, dated October 2015, which is available on the Bank’s website at http://www.afdb.org.
